Type: transitive verb root

Meaning:
[-R](1) to /offer, /give, /bring s.t. to someone (-mut) (2) to /take s.t. away forcibly from someone (-mit)
  • with transitive ending:
    • 1. 1. to offer, give, bring it to someone (-mut)
    • 2. 2. to take it away forcibly from someone (-mit)
    • ex.: aattara
  • with intransitive ending, an antipassive suffix*, and an object:
    • 1. 1. to offer, give, bring s.t. (-mik) to someone (-mut)
    • 2. 2. to take s.t. (-mik) away forcibly from someone (-mit)
    • ex.: aatsijuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the passive mode:
    • 1. 1. to be offered, be given, be brought to someone (-mut)
    • 2. 2. to be taken away forcibly from someone (-mit)
    • ex.: aattuq

*Antipassive suffix

  • when used with intransitive suffixes or verb endings and an object, in order for the verb NOT to be interpreted passively or reflexively, this verb root must be followed by the antipassive suffix si1vv: aatsijuq
