Inuktitut Root Definition



atangiq   ᐊᑕᖏᖅ

Type: transitive verb root

Meaning:
[-R]to /do, /get s.t. completely, all of them
  • with transitive ending:
    • to do, get it completely, all of them
    • ex.: atangiqtara
  • with intransitive ending, an antipassive suffix*, and an object:
    • to do, get s.t. (-mik) completely, all of them
    • ex.: atangiijuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the passive mode:
    • to be done, be gotten completely, all of them
    • ex.: atangiqtuq

*Antipassive suffix

  • when used with intransitive suffixes or verb endings and an object, in order for the verb NOT to be interpreted passively or reflexively, this verb root must be followed by the antipassive suffix i1vv: atangiijuq
