Inuktitut Root Definition



ingulak   ᐃᖑᓚᒃ

Type: transitive verb root

Meaning:
[-R]to /stir or /mix s.t.
  • with transitive ending:
    • to stir or mix it
    • ex.: ingulaktara
  • with intransitive ending, an antipassive suffix*, and an object:
    • to stir or mix s.t. (-mik)
    • ex.: ingulaksijuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the passive mode:
    • to be stirred or be mixed
    • ex.: ingulaktuq

*Antipassive suffix

  • when used with intransitive suffixes or verb endings and an object, in order for the verb NOT to be interpreted passively or reflexively, this verb root must be followed by the antipassive suffix si1vv: ingulaksijuq
