Inuktitut Root Definition



innguq   ᐃᙳᖅ

Type: transitive verb root

Meaning:
to /cave s.t. in
  • with transitive ending:
    • to cave it in
    • ex.: innguqtara
  • with intransitive ending, an antipassive suffix*, and an object:
    • to cave s.t. (-mik) in
    • ex.: innguijuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the reflexive mode:
    • to cave in
    • ex.: innguqtuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the passive mode:
    • to be caved in
    • ex.: innguqtuq

*Antipassive suffix

  • when used with intransitive suffixes or verb endings and an object, in order for the verb NOT to be interpreted passively or reflexively, this verb root must be followed by the antipassive suffix i1vv: innguijuq
