Inuktitut Root Definition



isiqiksaq   ᐃᓯᕿᒃᓴᖅ

Type: transitive verb root

Meaning:
[-R]to /iron or /press s.t.
  • with transitive ending:
    • to iron or press it
    • ex.: isiqiksaqtara
  • with intransitive ending, an antipassive suffix*, and an object:
    • to iron or press s.t. (-mik)
    • ex.: isiqiksaijuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the passive mode:
    • to be ironed or be pressed
    • ex.: isiqiksaqtuq

*Antipassive suffix

  • when used with intransitive suffixes or verb endings and an object, in order for the verb NOT to be interpreted passively or reflexively, this verb root must be followed by the antipassive suffix i1vv: isiqiksaijuq
