kakiaq   ᑲᑭᐊᖅ

Type: transitive verb root

Meaning:
to /clean s.t. or /clear s.t. of impurities or marks
  • with transitive ending:
    • to clean it or clear s.t. of impurities or marks
    • ex.: kakiaqtara
  • with intransitive ending, an antipassive suffix*, and an object:
    • to clean s.t. (-mik) or clear s.t. of impurities or marks
    • ex.: kakiaqsijuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the reflexive mode:
    • to clean itself or clear s.t. of impurities or marks
    • ex.: kakiaqtuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the passive mode:
    • to be cleaned or be cleared s.t. of impurities or marks
    • ex.: kakiaqtuq

*Antipassive suffix

  • when used with intransitive suffixes or verb endings and an object, in order for the verb NOT to be interpreted passively or reflexively, this verb root must be followed by the antipassive suffix si1vv: kakiaqsijuq
