Type: transitive verb root

Meaning:
to /chip or /break s.t.
  • with transitive ending:
    • to chip or break it
    • ex.: kikittara
  • with intransitive ending, an antipassive suffix*, and an object:
    • to chip or break s.t. (-mik)
    • ex.: kikitsijuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the reflexive mode:
    • to chip or break
    • ex.: kikittuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the passive mode:
    • to be chipped or be broken
    • ex.: kikittuq

*Antipassive suffix

  • when used with intransitive suffixes or verb endings and an object, in order for the verb NOT to be interpreted passively or reflexively, this verb root must be followed by the antipassive suffix si1vv: kikitsijuq
