Inuktitut Root Definition



kugluk   ᑯᒡᓗᒃ

Type: transitive verb root

Meaning:
to /double or /fold s.t. lengthwise
  • with transitive ending:
    • to double or fold it lengthwise
    • ex.: kugluktara
  • with intransitive ending, an antipassive suffix*, and an object:
    • to double or fold s.t. (-mik) lengthwise
    • ex.: kugluksijuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the reflexive mode:
    • to double or fold itself lengthwise
    • ex.: kugluktuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the passive mode:
    • to be doubled or be folded lengthwise
    • ex.: kugluktuq

*Antipassive suffix

  • when used with intransitive suffixes or verb endings and an object, in order for the verb NOT to be interpreted passively or reflexively, this verb root must be followed by the antipassive suffix si1vv: kugluksijuq
