mapsuk   ᒪᑉᓱᒃ

Type: transitive verb root

Meaning:
to /turn up or /tilt up s.t. (the tip of something)
  • with transitive ending:
    • to turn up or tilt up it (the tip of something)
    • ex.: mapsuktara
  • with intransitive ending, an antipassive suffix*, and an object:
    • to turn up or tilt up s.t. (-mik) (the tip of something)
    • ex.: mapsuksijuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the reflexive mode:
    • to turn up or tilt up (the tip of something)
    • ex.: mapsuktuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the passive mode:
    • to be turned up or be tilted up (the tip of something)
    • ex.: mapsuktuq

*Antipassive suffix

  • when used with intransitive suffixes or verb endings and an object, in order for the verb NOT to be interpreted passively or reflexively, this verb root must be followed by the antipassive suffix si1vv: mapsuksijuq
