Inuktitut Root Definition



misuk   ᒥᓱᒃ

Type: transitive verb root

Meaning:
to /plunge or /immerse s.t. in the water
  • with transitive ending:
    • to plunge or immerse it in the water
    • ex.: misuktara
  • with intransitive ending, an antipassive suffix*, and an object:
    • to plunge or immerse s.t. (-mik) in the water
    • ex.: misuksijuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the reflexive mode:
    • to plunge or immerse itself in the water
    • ex.: misuktuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the passive mode:
    • to be plunged or be immersed in the water
    • ex.: misuktuq

*Antipassive suffix

  • when used with intransitive suffixes or verb endings and an object, in order for the verb NOT to be interpreted passively or reflexively, this verb root must be followed by the antipassive suffix si1vv: misuksijuq
