Type: transitive verb root

Meaning:
to /snap or /break s.t. across or laterally
  • with transitive ending:
    • to snap or break it across or laterally
    • ex.: napijara
  • with intransitive ending, an antipassive suffix*, and an object:
    • to snap or break s.t. (-mik) across or laterally
    • ex.: napisijuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the reflexive mode:
    • to snap or break across or laterally
    • ex.: napijuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the passive mode:
    • to be snapped or be broken across or laterally
    • ex.: napijuq

*Antipassive suffix

  • when used with intransitive suffixes or verb endings and an object, in order for the verb NOT to be interpreted passively or reflexively, this verb root must be followed by the antipassive suffix si1vv: napisijuq
