nimiq   ᓂᒥᖅ

Type: transitive verb root

Meaning:
to /wind or /coil something (rope, line, bandage) around s.t.
  • with transitive ending:
    • to wind or coil something (rope, line, bandage) around it
    • ex.: nimiqtara
  • with intransitive ending, an antipassive suffix*, and an object:
    • to wind or coil something (rope, line, bandage) around s.t. (-mik)
    • ex.: nimiqsijuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the reflexive mode:
    • to wind or coil something (rope, line, bandage) around itself
    • ex.: nimiqtuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the passive mode:
    • to be wound or be coiled something (rope, line, bandage) around
    • ex.: nimiqtuq

*Antipassive suffix

  • when used with intransitive suffixes or verb endings and an object, in order for the verb NOT to be interpreted passively or reflexively, this verb root must be followed by the antipassive suffix si1vv: nimiqsijuq
