Inuktitut Root Definition



nussuk   ᓄᔅᓱᒃ

Type: transitive verb root

Meaning:
[-R]to /pull or /tug s.t. repeatedly
  • with transitive ending:
    • to pull or tug it repeatedly
    • ex.: nussuktara
  • with intransitive ending, an antipassive suffix*, and an object:
    • to pull or tug s.t. (-mik) repeatedly
    • ex.: nussuksijuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the passive mode:
    • to be pulled or be tugged repeatedly
    • ex.: nussuktuq

*Antipassive suffix

  • when used with intransitive suffixes or verb endings and an object, in order for the verb NOT to be interpreted passively or reflexively, this verb root must be followed by one of the antipassive suffixes si1vv i1vv: nussuksijuq nussuijuq
