pauktuq   ᐸᐅᒃᑐᖅ

Type: transitive verb root

Meaning:
to /stretch or /peg s.t. out in a drying rack or stretcher
  • with transitive ending:
    • to stretch or peg it out in a drying rack or stretcher
    • ex.: pauktuqtara
  • with intransitive ending, an antipassive suffix*, and an object:
    • to stretch or peg s.t. (-mik) out in a drying rack or stretcher
    • ex.: pauktuijuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the reflexive mode:
    • to stretch or peg itself out in a drying rack or stretcher
    • ex.: pauktuqtuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the passive mode:
    • to be stretched or be pegged out in a drying rack or stretcher
    • ex.: pauktuqtuq

*Antipassive suffix

  • when used with intransitive suffixes or verb endings and an object, in order for the verb NOT to be interpreted passively or reflexively, this verb root must be followed by the antipassive suffix i1vv: pauktuijuq
