Type: transitive verb root

Meaning:
to /twist s.t. around and around
  • with transitive ending:
    • to twist it around and around
    • ex.: qipittara
  • with intransitive ending, an antipassive suffix*, and an object:
    • to twist s.t. (-mik) around and around
    • ex.: qipitsijuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the reflexive mode:
    • to twist itself around and around
    • ex.: qipittuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the passive mode:
    • to be twisted around and around
    • ex.: qipittuq

*Antipassive suffix

  • when used with intransitive suffixes or verb endings and an object, in order for the verb NOT to be interpreted passively or reflexively, this verb root must be followed by the antipassive suffix si1vv: qipitsijuq
