Inuktitut Root Definition



qirlut   ᕿᕐᓗᑦ

Type: transitive verb root

Meaning:
[-R]to /miss s.t. (an animal) by shooting too low
  • with transitive ending:
    • to miss it (an animal) by shooting too low
    • ex.: qirluttara
  • with intransitive ending, an antipassive suffix*, and an object:
    • to miss s.t. (-mik) (an animal) by shooting too low
    • ex.: qirluijuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the passive mode:
    • to be missed (an animal) by shooting too low
    • ex.: qirluttuq

*Antipassive suffix

  • when used with intransitive suffixes or verb endings and an object, in order for the verb NOT to be interpreted passively or reflexively, this verb root must be followed by the antipassive suffix i1vv: qirluijuq
