qissuk   ᕿᔅᓱᒃ

Type: transitive verb root

Meaning:
to /scratch s.o. intentionally and repeatedly or in several places
  • with transitive ending:
    • to scratch him/her intentionally and repeatedly or in several places
    • ex.: qissuktara
  • with intransitive ending, an antipassive suffix*, and an object:
    • to scratch s.o. (-mik) intentionally and repeatedly or in several places
    • ex.: qissunniktuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the reflexive mode:
    • to scratch oneself intentionally and repeatedly or in several places
    • ex.: qissuktuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the passive mode:
    • to be scratched intentionally and repeatedly or in several places
    • ex.: qissuktuq

*Antipassive suffix

  • when used with intransitive suffixes or verb endings and an object, in order for the verb NOT to be interpreted passively or reflexively, this verb root must be followed by the antipassive suffix nnik1vv: qissunniktuq
