Type: transitive verb root

Meaning:
to /split s.t., /crack s.t. lengthwise, along the grain
  • with transitive ending:
    • to split it , crack s.t. lengthwise, along the grain
    • ex.: qupijara
  • with intransitive ending, an antipassive suffix*, and an object:
    • to split s.t. (-mik) , crack s.t. lengthwise, along the grain
    • ex.: qupisijuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the reflexive mode:
    • to split , crack s.t. lengthwise, along the grain
    • ex.: qupijuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the passive mode:
    • to be split , be cracked s.t. lengthwise, along the grain
    • ex.: qupijuq

*Antipassive suffix

  • when used with intransitive suffixes or verb endings and an object, in order for the verb NOT to be interpreted passively or reflexively, this verb root must be followed by the antipassive suffix si1vv: qupisijuq
