siimik   ᓰᒥᒃ

Type: transitive verb root

Meaning:
to /catch, /squash, /squeeze s.t. between or under heavy objects
  • with transitive ending:
    • to catch, squash, squeeze it between or under heavy objects
    • ex.: siimiktara
  • with intransitive ending, an antipassive suffix*, and an object:
    • to catch, squash, squeeze s.t. (-mik) between or under heavy objects
    • ex.: siimiksijuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the reflexive mode:
    • to catch, squash, squeeze itself between or under heavy objects
    • ex.: siimiktuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the passive mode:
    • to be caught, be squashed, be squeezed between or under heavy objects
    • ex.: siimiktuq

*Antipassive suffix

  • when used with intransitive suffixes or verb endings and an object, in order for the verb NOT to be interpreted passively or reflexively, this verb root must be followed by the antipassive suffix si1vv: siimiksijuq
