tigaq   ᑎᒐᖅ

Type: transitive verb root

Meaning:
to /lash or /belabour s.t. with a short whip
  • with transitive ending:
    • to lash or belabour it with a short whip
    • ex.: tigaqtara
  • with intransitive ending, an antipassive suffix*, and an object:
    • to lash or belabour s.t. (-mik) with a short whip
    • ex.: tigaqsijuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the reflexive mode:
    • to lash or belabour itself with a short whip
    • ex.: tigaqtuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the passive mode:
    • to be lashed or be belaboured with a short whip
    • ex.: tigaqtuq

*Antipassive suffix

  • when used with intransitive suffixes or verb endings and an object, in order for the verb NOT to be interpreted passively or reflexively, this verb root must be followed by the antipassive suffix si1vv: tigaqsijuq
