Inuktitut Root Definition



tulliq   ᑐᓪᓕᖅ

Type: transitive verb root

Meaning:
[-R]to tread s.t. (snow) such that it is hardened or flattened
  • with transitive ending:
    • to tread it (snow) such that it is hardened or flattened
    • ex.: tulliqtara
  • with intransitive ending, an antipassive suffix*, and an object:
    • to tread s.t. (-mik) (snow) such that it is hardened or flattened
    • ex.: tulliijuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the passive mode:
    • to tread (snow) such that it is hardened or flattened
    • ex.: tulliqtuq

*Antipassive suffix

  • when used with intransitive suffixes or verb endings and an object, in order for the verb NOT to be interpreted passively or reflexively, this verb root must be followed by the antipassive suffix i1vv: tulliijuq
