Type: transitive verb root

Meaning:
to /poke s.t. head-on with a rigid object
  • with transitive ending:
    • to poke it head-on with a rigid object
    • ex.: tuuqtara
  • with intransitive ending, an antipassive suffix*, and an object:
    • to poke s.t. (-mik) head-on with a rigid object
    • ex.: tuuqsijuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the reflexive mode:
    • to poke itself head-on with a rigid object
    • ex.: tuuqtuq
  • with intransitive ending, no antipassive suffix, in the passive mode:
    • to be poked head-on with a rigid object
    • ex.: tuuqtuq

*Antipassive suffix

  • when used with intransitive suffixes or verb endings and an object, in order for the verb NOT to be interpreted passively or reflexively, this verb root must be followed by the antipassive suffix si1vv: tuuqsijuq
